Overview
Build touch-enabled visitor journeys, service menus, navigation pages and lead forms, then run them as a full-time kiosk or alongside normal digital signage.
Before you begin
Confirm that Kiosk App is included in the user package, identify the touch-enabled screen, and prepare concise text, HTTPS links and optimized media for the experience.
Kiosk experience and screen settings guide
These controls determine what visitors see, how they navigate and how the player returns to normal signage safely.
Experience settings
- Experience name: An internal name used in the Kiosk dashboard and Screen assignment list. Use a clear name such as Reception Self Service or Store Product Finder.
- Status: Only Active experiences can be assigned and delivered to players. Set an experience Inactive while preparing or retiring it.
- Default experience: The fallback active experience used when no specific active experience is available for a kiosk-enabled screen.
- Orientation: Auto adapts to the screen area. Landscape and Portrait optimize the interactive layout for a fixed physical orientation.
- Theme, accent and canvas: Control the visual foundation of the experience. Always verify readable contrast in Preview and on the physical display.
- Idle reset: Returns the visitor to the first kiosk page after no interaction for the configured number of seconds.
- Maximum session: Ends an unusually long visitor session and resets the experience so personal navigation state is not left for the next visitor.
Pages and content blocks
- Page: A screen within the visitor journey. Each page has a stable page ID used by navigation buttons.
- Heading and Text: Display titles and supporting information. Keep public-screen copy short and readable from the expected viewing distance.
- Image: Displays an image from a valid source URL. Use optimized landscape or portrait media matching the selected experience orientation.
- Video: Displays supported web video media. Use H.264/AAC fast-start video from the SignMitra CDN for dependable Android and TV playback.
- Button: Creates a touch action that navigates to another page ID or opens an HTTPS destination.
- Card: Presents a touch-friendly service, product or destination choice.
- Form: Collects the configured visitor fields and records a form-conversion event for kiosk analytics.
- Spacer: Adds controlled visual separation between blocks without inserting blank text.
Screen playback modes
- Signage: Runs the existing playlist only. Kiosk controls and overlays remain disabled.
- Touch Kiosk: Pauses the signage presentation and keeps the selected interactive experience open.
- Hybrid: Runs the existing playlist as an attract loop. A visitor touch opens the kiosk, and inactivity returns to the same signage playback safely.
- Kiosk experience: Selects which active experience the screen will use. Experiences are isolated by user account.
- Return after inactivity: The screen-level idle value used to close a Hybrid session and reset its journey.
- Maximum touch session: The screen-level safety limit for one public interaction session.
Devices and desktop players
- Android and Android TV: Use the normal SignMitra player URL and current APK. The kiosk runtime is delivered by the server. A physical touch panel or connected pointer is required for interaction.
- Windows: Install the current SignMitra Player package. It supports touch kiosk, hybrid mode, fullscreen playback and optional Screensaver Mode.
- macOS: Install the Intel or Apple Silicon package matching the Mac. Touch interaction depends on the connected touchscreen hardware and macOS input support.
- Browser preview: Use Preview to inspect the layout and navigation, but complete validation should be performed on the actual screen and touch hardware.
Good to know
- Signage mode is the safe default and keeps the existing playlist behavior unchanged.
- Touch Kiosk mode opens the interactive experience continuously; Hybrid mode keeps signage as the attract loop and opens the kiosk when a visitor touches the screen.
- Kiosk mode is assigned to a Screen, so every supported player attached to that screen receives the same experience and settings.
- The experience configuration is included in the player sync for offline resilience. External websites, remote images and videos still require network access unless already cached by the device.
- Use large touch targets, short labels, strong contrast and as few steps as possible for public self-service screens.
- Android uses the SignMitra web player and does not require a separate Android APK update for this feature.
Publishing
Kiosk App does not create a normal slide. Save and activate the experience, open the required Screen, select Touch Kiosk or Hybrid, choose the experience and save the screen. The connected player receives the updated kiosk configuration while the existing signage playlist remains intact.
Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Confirm package access
Open Apps in the user dashboard and confirm Kiosk App is available. If Upgrade is shown, an administrator must enable the app for the package.
Step 2: Open the Kiosk dashboard
Select Kiosk App and choose New experience or Create experience. Kiosk App opens its management dashboard and does not create a slide.
Step 3: Configure the experience
Enter a clear name and description, keep Status Active when ready, select orientation and theme, and configure idle and maximum-session limits.
Step 4: Build the welcome page
Edit the first page heading and supporting text. Add clear touch choices that explain what a visitor can do.
Step 5: Add pages
Create separate pages for services, products, directions, enquiries or other visitor tasks. Keep page names recognizable in the builder.
Step 6: Add and edit blocks
Use Heading, Text, Image, Video, Button, Card, Form and Spacer blocks. Use optimized SignMitra CDN media and HTTPS destinations.
Step 7: Connect navigation
For each navigation action, use the destination page ID. Test every forward, back and home path so visitors cannot reach a dead end.
Step 8: Preview and save
Review the live preview for text fit, contrast and touch-target size, then choose Save experience.
Step 9: Assign the experience to a screen
Open Screens, edit the target screen, select Touch Kiosk or Hybrid, choose the saved experience and set the screen idle/session values.
Step 10: Test the physical kiosk
Sync the player and test a complete visitor journey, idle return, form submission, playlist resume in Hybrid mode, network interruption and device restart.
Step 11: Review usage
Return to the Kiosk dashboard to review 30-day sessions, interactions and form-conversion totals, then simplify pages where visitors abandon the journey.
