Overview

Use this guide to install SignMitra Player on a Windows Mini PC, pair it to a screen and configure reliable unattended playback with secure dashboard-requested device restart.

Compatibility: Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit. Installation needs one administrator approval; normal player use does not need an elevated desktop session.

What the Windows installer configures

Player UIRuns in the signed-in kiosk or signage account, starts automatically at login and displays the assigned content.
SignMitra Player ServiceRuns separately as an Automatic delayed-start Windows service under LocalSystem, which has the required SeShutdownPrivilege. It remains available if the UI is minimized, closed or recovering.
Security boundaryThe service listens only on 127.0.0.1, requires a per-install token and accepts only restart or shutdown actions. It does not expose a public inbound port or execute arbitrary commands.

Network and firewall

  • Allow outbound HTTPS access to signmitra.com, the SignMitra media CDN and any external domains used by assigned content. No inbound firewall port is required.
  • The Windows service uses only a local loopback connection between the player and 127.0.0.1; it is not reachable from another computer.
  • The device must be online to receive a new dashboard command. Content already downloaded for offline playback continues without internet where the content type supports it.
  • Keep the Mini PC online through pairing and one complete playlist cycle before testing offline playback.

Unattended startup

  • The installer configures the background service for Automatic delayed start and the player for startup with the Windows user session.
  • For unattended corporate signage, use Windows Assigned Access/kiosk configuration or an approved auto-login signage account so a desktop session is available after boot.
  • Set Windows power and display policies so the PC does not sleep during signage hours, and configure the BIOS to power on after AC recovery when required.
  • The service has recovery actions and can restart independently of the Electron player UI.

Production checks

  • Confirm SignMitra Player Service shows Running and Automatic (Delayed Start) in Windows Services.
  • Pair the displayed code, assign a screen, publish content and verify the device becomes Online in Device Manager.
  • Restart Windows locally once and confirm the service starts before sign-in and the player returns after kiosk sign-in.
  • Test video, sound, portrait or landscape rotation and one complete offline playback cycle.
  • During a maintenance window, use Device Manager > Reboot Device and confirm the whole Mini PC—not only the app—restarts and resumes signage.

Troubleshooting

  • Remote restart reports failed: install or repair the latest Windows player as Administrator, then check that SignMitra Player Service is running.
  • Service is missing: run the latest EXE installer as Administrator. Do not copy only the player executable from another computer.
  • Player does not return after reboot: configure Assigned Access or the approved auto-login account and confirm SignMitra Player is enabled in startup apps.
  • Device stays offline: verify date and time, DNS, proxy and outbound HTTPS access to SignMitra. No inbound firewall rule should be created.
  • Content is unavailable offline: reconnect until all media finishes downloading and a complete playlist cycle has played.
  • Restart is accepted but Windows does not reboot: check Windows Event Viewer and service logs under the installed resources/windows-service/logs folder, then repair the installation.
Important: Save open work before testing a remote restart. The player acknowledges the command only after the local service accepts it, then Windows displays a short restart countdown.
Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Prepare the Windows Mini PC

Install current Windows updates, set the correct time zone, connect the final display and network, and create the destination screen and playlist in SignMitra.

Step 2: Download the official player

Open https://www.signmitra.com/download and choose SignMitra Player for Windows. Use the managed SignMitra download link, not a copied executable from another device.

Step 3: Install once as Administrator

Open the downloaded EXE and approve Windows administrator access. The per-machine installer installs the player and registers SignMitra Player Service with the required Windows shutdown privilege.

Step 4: Verify the background service

Open Services in Windows and confirm SignMitra Player Service is Running with Startup type Automatic (Delayed Start). The UI itself should continue to run as the normal signage user.

Step 5: Launch and pair

Open SignMitra Player, then scan or enter the displayed pairing code from SignMitra Dashboard. Assign the required screen and publish its playlist or schedule.

Step 6: Configure unattended sign-in

Use Windows Assigned Access/kiosk mode or an organisation-approved auto-login signage account. Confirm the player starts automatically when that session begins.

Step 7: Complete the first content sync

Keep the PC online until all assigned media is downloaded and one complete playlist cycle finishes. Then perform a short offline test.

Step 8: Test full-device restart

Save open work and use Reboot Device from SignMitra Device Manager during a maintenance window. Windows should restart after the short countdown and signage should resume after boot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the SignMitra player need to run as Administrator every day?
No. Administrator approval is required during installation so the separate Windows service can be registered. The interactive player UI runs as the normal signage user.
No. Restart App relaunches the player. Reboot Device uses SignMitra Player Service to restart the complete Windows Mini PC.
It provides the shutdown privilege and remains available independently of the player UI, including while the UI is minimized, closed or recovering.
No. The player makes outbound connections to SignMitra, and its privileged helper listens only on the local 127.0.0.1 loopback interface.
It is the Windows “Shut down the system” user right. The installer runs the helper as LocalSystem, which supplies this right without elevating the player UI.
The service starts automatically. The visual player also needs a Windows user session, so configure Assigned Access/kiosk mode or an approved auto-login signage account.
No. It uses a per-install token and accepts only the fixed restart and shutdown actions from the local player.
Supported media continues from the completed local cache. Live websites, feeds, YouTube, meetings and other cloud content still require connectivity.
